A student at Cayuga Elementary in Lake Grove was rescued from choking by a quick-thinking classmate and a school custodian last week.
Officials say second grade student Kendall sprang into action when she noticed her friend Olivia begin to choke during lunch.
She alerted custodian Mike Horry, who gave Olivia the Heimlich maneuver.
On Tuesday night, Olivia thanked the two and gave them gifts.
"I want to say a big 'thank you' for saving my life,” she said. "Not all superheroes wear capes. I love you."
The school district also gave Kendall and Horry certificates for their heroism.
